Sleep Apnea

Overview

Obstructive sleep apnea can affect energy, mood, focus, and long-term health—often showing up as loud snoring, restless sleep, and daytime fatigue. Huntsville Ear, Nose, & Throat focuses on procedural solutions for patients who are appropriate candidates.

We review your history and existing sleep study results and evaluate your airway anatomy to recommend the procedure that best targets the source of obstruction and supports better airflow during sleep.

Common Symptoms

● Loud, chronic snoring
● Witnessed pauses in breathing during sleep
● Waking up choking, gasping, or short of breath
● Restless sleep or frequent awakenings
● Excessive daytime sleepiness or persistent fatigueLoud, chronic snoring
● Morning headaches, dry mouth, or sore throat on waking
● Trouble concentrating, memory issues, or irritability/mood changes

Minimally Invasive and Surgical Treatments

Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy

An outpatient surgery performed in the operating room to remove enlarged tonsils and/or adenoids that block the airway during sleep. This can be especially effective for children with sleep-disordered breathing and can also benefit select adults with significantly enlarged tonsils contributing to obstruction.

Removing obstructing tissue can improve airflow and support more restorative sleep when anatomy is a major driver of symptoms.

Expansion Sphincter Pharyngoplasty

A reconstructive throat procedure performed in the operating room to widen and stabilize the soft palate and side walls of the throat. By reinforcing tissues that commonly collapse during sleep, this surgery can reduce obstruction and improve breathing in appropriately selected patients.

We use careful airway evaluation and sleep study information to determine candidacy and set clear expectations for recovery.

INSPIRE Implant

An outpatient implant procedure performed in the operating room for select patients with obstructive sleep apnea who meet specific criteria. The device gently stimulates upper airway muscles during sleep to help keep the airway open and reduce obstruction.

Candidates are selected based on airway anatomy and sleep study results, and care includes guided evaluation, implant planning, and structured follow-up after activation.
